Mountain Heart. This style of laminated steel is a first for me, crafted using a method developed by Will Manning of Heartwood Forge (see notes below). I repurposed rusty whiskey barrel hoops (visible in the photos) and forge-welded them with various types of steel to create a striking, mountain-like pattern. This blade is modest in size, perfectly suited for a wide range of kitchen tasks, and features a handle that’s as exceptional as the blade itself. Made from stunning maple burl and accented with brass pins, the handle has been carefully hand-sanded to a buttery-smooth finish for a comfortable and secure grip. Well-balanced, razor-sharp, and designed to be used daily, this knife is as practical as it is one-of-a-kind. I encourage its owner to put it to work in the kitchen and enjoy it!
A special note about this knife: the "Heart" in its name is in honor of Heartwood Forge, a friend and mentor. Will discovered a method of forging rusty whiskey barrel hoops to make beautiful laminated steel and presented it at a blacksmith festival earlier this year. This knife is a result of me using his method to create something functional.
