Spring Slicer gets its name from its steel, crafted in the traditional san mai style. The core is made from high-carbon steel for a razor-sharp cutting edge, while the outer layers are forged from reclaimed truck leaf spring steel to provide durability and toughness (visible in the last image). The blade’s unique patterns are created through forge-welding, where the materials are fused at extremely high temperatures (1500-2000°F). One distinct aspect of this blade is that the patterns are vastly different on each side- one side resembles rugged mountain ranges, while the other mimics the curves of a coastline. The handle pairs the rich textures of eucalyptus burl at the rear with spalted maple at the front which was chosen to complement the blade’s forge-weld lines. The dark spalting veins are actually caused by natural fungal growth; however, this wood is put through a specialized process called stabilzation that eliminates any live fungus makes the wood  water-resistant, rot-resistant, and durable. This paring knife is excellent for slicing, trimming, peeling, and prepping, featuring an extended blade that provides extra reach and precision.

Please note this knife has been discounted due to a slight warp in the tip that will not affect functionality.
